The Best Panties to Wear with Your Favorite Outfits

Panties Guide which panties to wear with which outfits

This post is sponsored by Kohl’s and I received compensation from Kohl’s.

Remember when I said I’d be blogging differently this year? In many of my posts this year I’ll be going hard with my Image Consulting background—a lot of the original postings I’d publish on this blog many moons ago when I first started this blog in 2007, i.e. dressing for your body type.

What’s changed is now I have a MUCH bigger audience and I’m also now better equipped to give you stunning visuals along with my style and beauty tips. I’m excited about it and you should be, too! I’ve also filmed some style videos for my Youtube channel as well. You’re not going to want to miss ANY of this so make sure you’re subscribed to this blog (you’ll get post notifications in your inbox) as well as to my YouTube channel.

Today we’re talking about panties and which ones are the best ones to wear for certain outfits. I teamed up with Kohl’s for this post as they have quite a vast selection of underwear which I was able to peruse and order from easily without even leaving my computer desk. #yassssssss

As someone who has spent almost her entire adult life trying to avoid wearing thongs, I’m the first to celebrate the diversity in panties and to also debunk the myth that the thong is the go-to panty for all outfit situations. I’d rather wear big baggy granny panties and have VPL (visible panty line) than wear a thong. I’d actually rather wear an oversized cloth diaper than wear a thong.

Where’d all this opposition to thongs come from? Well, as someone who was a very young adult in the early 2000s when low-rise jeans and your thong PURPOSELY showing from your designer jeans was actually a look—I wholeheartedly believe they traumatized me. I was just a young, innocent, tender 19 year old when Sisqo’s “The Thong Song” came out. TRAU-MA-TIZED.

And while Kohl’s has quite an assortment even for you thong stans out there, there are also quite an array of boyshorts, shapewear panties, sports panties, sexy panties—you name it! For this post I’m going over some pretty common outfits and silhouettes and the type of panties you should wear with them. Ready? Let’s go!

The Full Skirt or Dress

If the material of your ensemble is loose and flows away from the body (meaning it’s not clinging to your curves), you technically could wear just about any underwear you wish. But since none of the materials are restrictive and you can get away with any pair, I say go for the granny panties…lol. Of course you don’t have to wear the granniest pair—I found cute and dare I say sexy grandma draws via Bali and Vanity Fair.

P.S. Don your biggest draws with any very loose, non-restricting bottom—this includes but certainly isn’t only limited to full skirts and dresses.

With your Jeans

Usually jeans are made out of thicker materials so sometimes you can get away with almost any style BUT you have to take some things into consideration. If you’re wearing low-rise jeans, you want to make sure your panties are also low-rise otherwise HELLO plumber’s crack everytime you sit down. If you’re wearing high-waist jeans, you don’t want back there looking awkward as you’ll literally have your panties in a bunch. For high-waisted styles, look for seamless options that are also high-waist in style (they also can double as shapewear—heyyyy) like this pair from Maidenform.

With a Skater Dress/Skirt

This might be one of my favorite skirt silhouettes because it’s perfect for my body type (and balances out my bottom butt—more on that in future posts…lol), not to mention how fun and flirty it is. While this style makes me want to prance and skip my way around (haha), a slight gust of wind could render me to sit my overly happy self down. This is why a cute pair of boyshorts are in order to provide coverage when the wind blows.

Form-fitting Shift Dresses or Pencil Skirts

Because this style is heavy on the sleek, you want something that smooths. A high-waist panty with either a seamless back or a thong will double as both shapewear and keep you from VPL.

At the Gym

I know you want to feel your most confident at the gym, but you may want to rethink wearing your laciest panties at Zumba. When we sweat, we tend to sweat in places other than our underarms and temples—yup, we sweat down there, too and you want to be prepped with breathable and comfy fabrics. Your cotton undies are a good choice as well as ones like these from New Balance that are made with moisture-wicking technology—they even have a thong option for your very fitted tights and/or shorts ensembles.

When wearing white clothing, there may be a temptation to wear white underwear so it’s seamless underneath. Resist this urge. The best shade of undies for underneath whites is something close to your skin tone. If you have a deeper skin tone like me and wear white panties under a white skirt, the white panties will create a contrast against your chocolaty skin and look VERY obvious underneath your clothing—of course depending on the fabric and style.

Kohl’s is having a sale on panties—use code INTIMATES10 for $10 off $40 March 3-16, 2017 and Bonus Buys March 3-12, 2017.

So I stumbled back to this post from your Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping. I use a lot of my JCPenney $10 off $10 and $10 off $25 coupons for panties. I’m normally buy Ambrielle cotton bikinis, but last time I went a different direction. I bought silky thongs and seamless modal panties.

I’m looking to wear some sweater dresses to church this season and these will work better than my old cotton standbys.
